When spring arrives in the Valley of Roses, Kelaat M’Gouna awakens in a sea of pink. Everywhere you look, Damask roses bloom and fill the air with their sweet fragrance. The biginning of May, the Valley of the Roses comes alive with the Rose Festival – a colorful celebration of culture, tradition, and, of course, the rose itself.

Where and When

Nestled between the stunning mountains of the Valley of Roses, Kelaat M’Gouna comes alive each year during the festival, usually in the biginning of May. The Damask rose, cultivated here for centuries, takes center stage as locals proudly share their harvest with visitors from around the world.

It is the center of Morocco’s rose industry, where between 2,000 and 4,000 tons of Damask roses are harvested each year.

The dates depend on the harvest season. In 2025, it took place from May 5 to 8. The exact dates for 2026 are usually announced about a month in advance.

Festival Highlights

During the three-day festival, the streets are alive with music, dance, and flowers:

  • Parades and processions: colorful floats travel through the town, and the “Miss Rose” is crowned.

  • Music and dance: traditional Berber music and Ahidous dance groups create a festive atmosphere.

  • Markets and crafts: rosewater, rose oil, and handmade souvenirs are everywhere.

  • Visual delights: streets decorated with roses, flower monuments, and even pink taxis!

A personal tip: talk to a local woman harvesting roses. Her stories about the harvest season and the traditional production of rosewater make the festival even more enchanting.
